Welcome our Summer Programme 2026! 


As we continue celebrating 50 years of guiding, storytelling, and sharing Southampton’s remarkable heritage, we’re delighted to launch our Summer Walking Tours — running throughout the season.


Join us as our expert guides bring the city’s history to life with a programme that blends iconic stories, hidden corners, and unforgettable moments. We are currently running


🔹 Overground & Underground

Discover Southampton’s medieval streets, ancient vaults, and the layers of history that lie above and below the city.


🔹 Titanic Trail

Follow in the footsteps of crew and passengers, explore the city’s deep connections to the world’s most famous ship, and uncover the human stories behind the tragedy.


More themed walks will be added throughout the summer, offering new ways to explore the city’s past — from maritime heritage to medieval mysteries and beyond.


All walks start at 1:30 p.m. from the Bargate unless otherwise stated.

As the days grow longer, our summer programme invites you to rediscover the city at its vibrant best. With bright skies, lively streets, and a season full of energy, it’s the perfect time to explore Southampton’s stories in the sunshine.

Celebrating 50 Years


This summer marks a special milestone for the Southampton Tourist Guides Association as we celebrate our 50th birthday — half a century of sharing stories, uncovering hidden corners, and bringing the city’s remarkable past to life.

Join us for a season of walks that showcase the very best of Southampton’s heritage.


🚶 Summer Walk Highlights


🔹 Overground & Underground

Explore medieval walls, descend into secret vaults, and uncover tales from Southampton’s colourful and surprising past.


🔹 Titanic Trail

Follow the paths of crew and passengers, discover the city’s deep connections to the Titanic, and hear the human stories behind the world’s most famous ship.

OVERGROUND & UNDERGROUND!


Come and find the rich history of Southampton! Walk around its Medieval town walls and step down into its hidden vaults. Hear about the history of the iconic medieval buildings still in existence in the town and about the colourful characters that once lived here.


WHO: All ages


WHERE: Tour starts north side of The Bargate.


WHEN:

10.30 AM every Saturday and Sunday during April, June, August and October


1.30 PM every  Saturday and Sunday during March, May, July,, September and November

STEP COUNT:  10,000 approx


COST:  £12.50 per person


DIFFICULTY:  The tour includes uneven paving, heights, spiral and stone staircases when descending into the vaults.

TITANIC TRAIL

The Titanic was the largest ship ever launched and was said to be ‘unsinkable’ - and yet she sailed from Southampton on April 10th 1912 and sank in the early hours of April 15th. Hundreds of the crew were local people. Join our guide on this walking tour to find out how this tragedy affected the town of Southampton and so many of its families.


WHO: All ages


WHERE: Tour starts at Holyrood Church.


WHEN:

STORIES OF THE OLD TOWN


Beginning at God’s House Tower, this evocative journey winds through cobbled alleys, forgotten chapels, friary ruins, and hidden vaults. Discover the stories of friars, merchants, and pioneers who shaped the city—still visible today, if you know where to look.


In collaboration with God’s House Tower, this tour offers fresh insight into the South and East of the Old Town.
