A rich journey through Southampton’s medieval past and the last 50 years of change — told through local memories, historic landmarks and the city’s evolving waterfront.


Then & Now: 1976–2026

A nostalgic look at the shops, cafés and streets that shaped everyday life. From Woolies Pic’n’Mix to the rise of West Quay, explore how the High Street has transformed in just one generation.

We are continuing to offer our signature Old Town tour through vaults, walls and centuries of history.

OVERGROUND & UNDERGROUND!


Come and find the rich history of Southampton! Walk around its Medieval town walls and step down into its hidden vaults. Hear about the history of the iconic medieval buildings still in existence in the town and about the colourful characters that once lived here.


WHO: All ages


WHERE: Tour starts north side of The Bargate.


WHEN:

10.30 AM every Saturday and Sunday during June and August


1.30 PM every  Saturday and Sunday during May, July and  September

DIFFICULTY:  The tour includes uneven paving, heights, spiral and stone staircases when descending into the vaults.

This nostalgic, good‑humoured walk explores the shops, cafés, banks and businesses that shaped everyday life in Southampton — and the social and economic changes that reshaped the High Street.


Perfect for long‑standing residents and anyone curious about how the city has changed in just one generation.

WHERE JOURNEYS BEGIN

Step into a thousand years of history — and fifty years of local memory. This walk links key medieval sites with the voices of residents who saw Southampton change from the 1970s onwards.


Follow the city’s journey from the Bargate to the waterfront, through shifting docks, a changing High Street and decades of regeneration.


A concise, atmospheric walk celebrating the place where so many journeys began — and a city shaped by movement and resilience.
